Norton picks up 40-day ban for failed breath test

JOCKEY Franny Norton has been banned for 40 days after failing a breath test at Chester in May.
The rider, who was legally represented, provided a sample which contained alcohol above the threshold level permitted in breath under schedule (D)3 of the rules of racing.
The disciplinary panel accepted an admission from Norton, who won the Ayr Gold Cup on Our Jonathan, that he was in breach of rule (D)66.
Taking into account that the level of alcohol found was 36 micrograms/100ml, which falls within the range of the upper level, the panel suspended Norton from riding for 40 days from October 7, 2011 to November 23, 2011 inclusive on days when Flat racing is scheduled to take place.
