Derby winner Workforce followed up with a tremendous victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe for English trainer Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore.
Stoute had never won an Arc before but saw Moore hold off a surprise challenge from Japanese entry Nakayama Festa.
Favourite Behkabad was well beaten with Sarafina staying on to take third.
Earlier, the Freddie Head-trained Goldikova set a new record for Group One successes, winning her 11th in the Prix de la Foret under Oliver Peslier.
Fittingly, Miesque, the former holder of the record in Europe with 10 wins, had been ridden by Head.
Peslier positioned the five-year-old, who has won 13 of her 19 starts in all, on the rails early on. And any doubts she would be inconvenienced by the soft ground were put to bed as she held off the Richard Hannon-trained pair of Paco Boy and Dick Turpin.
Head said afterwards: "It's extraordinary. I was very scared about the going, it was touch and go whether she would run. Olivier rode a great race, now she will head to America for the Breeders' Cup Mile."
In the day's feature, the most famous prize in French racing, Stoute had to await some post-race nerves as a stewards' inquiry.
But it was soon clear that then King's Best colt, given an assured ride from champion jockey Moore, was not involved in their deliberations, allowing the Newmarket-based veteran a chance to celebrate his maiden success in the Arc.
Workforce travelled strongly throughout but was nearer last than first on the turn for home - until showing an excellent turn of foot in testing conditions to hit the front approaching the final furlong.
But Nakayama Festa, barely mentioned in pre-race deliberations, gave Moore concern all the way to the finish, with the fast-finishing French filly Sarafina taking third-place prize money.
Workforce, a brilliant winner at Epsom where he broke the course record, was not confirmed as an Arc participant until Thursday following his dismal performance in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on his previous start.
Stoute said: "He was a big disappointment in the King George. It's been a real team effort [to get him back] and I'm not just saying that as a cliche.
"The jockey gave him some ride."
1. Workforce (Ryan Moore) 6-1
2. Nakayama Festa (M Ebina) 22-1
3. Sarafina (Gerald Mosse) 12-1
